WI-HER has expertise in performance monitoring, evaluation and research and can design and conduct evaluations for new and existing activities that influence demand for services or household or community behaviors that affect population, health and nutrition programs, including HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and maternal and child health programs. We ensure that result indicators are sex-disaggregated and project design and evaluation is gender-aware so that project benefits may equally research women, men, girls, and boys. Specifically, our team can provide support services to:
- Conduct research to understand local gender-related gaps and barriers;
- Conduct gender analyses and assessments at all levels of program activities;
- Provide technical assistance to local institutions to enhance their capability to conduct qualitative and operations research;
- Develop routine gender monitoring and evaluation plans for the program lifecycle;
- Document and share recommendations and action plans for sustained behavior change.
WI-HER uses a systematic process to first identify and understand gender related gaps and barriers that lead to unequal service uptake and benefit among women, men, girls and boys. Our team is experienced in developing and adapting gender analysis and assessment tools to any local context to enable us to understand the social, political and environmental factors that prevent communities and individuals from leading gender equitable lives. As a first step, we conduct gender analyses and assessments prior to program implementation to gain an understanding gender-related barriers as well as to collect and analyze sex-disaggregated and gender-sensitive data. In addition, WI-HER staff have experience in conducting focus group discussions and key informant interviews to further supplement qualitative and quantitative data and fill in any remaining gaps in knowledge about gender in the local context.
Recommendations & Action Plans
Our systematic approach enables us to provide tailored, activity specific recommendations to integration gender-sensitive behavior change strategies into programs in any sector. We work to develop gender and social inclusion recommendations and action plans for program staff to guide gender integration efforts throughout the life of any program. Using our gender analyses and assessments as a basis, we work with project teams to create gender-sensitive monitoring and evaluation tools and indicators to ensure that project activities are achieving intended outcomes among women, men, girls and boys, and that any unintended negative consequences are identified and mitigated immediately. Our staff can provide trainings and workshops on action plans and monitoring and evaluation to ensure that staff understand and are able to operationalize such materials.
